Sincere Regrets from Mr. Charles Craft

Dear Phil and other members of the Crossland High School Class of 1966,

Please accept my regrets that I will not be able to attend the 45th reunion of this remarkable class. I will be out of state attending an event which I planned and cannot postpone.
I worked with many of you in my student teaching experience when you were juniors in Mrs Carolyn Steelman's English class. After accepting a position at CHS, I was assigned to teach students in Crossland's first senior class and to advise the yearbook.
I was truly fortunate to work with such a fine group. Students in my classes probably learned that I was, and still am, inclined to be somewhat cynical, but know this: I look back on so many of you with deep affection and I hope life has treated you well. Even now, I could almost fill out a class roster because so many of you are part of my memories.
Perhaps I will be able to join you at your fiftieth reunion.
Have a great time as you share memories.

Charles Craft
Teacher of English

RE: Looking for Class of 1966 History

Jerry! Garnet here.

Although we students DID get to vote on these things; I believe the faculty had pretty well selected most things. I remember that Coaches Merricks & La Fontaine lobbied each class for Cavaliers, Md State Flag colors (Scarlet,Gold,White,Black) & the Univ of Texas fight song melody. Coach Merricks seemed to be real fond of Coach Darrell Royale & the I formation. I always presumed the Music Dept folks has settled on the fight song lyrics & the Alma Mater. I wasn't in that dept at all. Perhaps those students were given more than one suggestion or were invited tweak to the suggestions. Regardless, I'd have to say they were ALL Great suggestions. Children of the free. Hope to see you at the 45th brother.
