It seems so sad to not have anything written about Darrell. I remember him from high school - a really friendly guy who passed away so soon after our graduation. God bless you, Darrell. From a sentimental friend who never forgot you.....
Robert (Bob) Shourds
I believe Darrell passed away in 1967, not long after we graduated from high school.
He was a Freshman at Sheppard College in West Virginia and died in an auto accident on his
way back to school after coming home on the weekend.
It does seem sad to not have anything written about him, so that is why I am writing this now.
What I remember most about Darrell is that he was very bright and personable. He always had
a smile on his face. He was also probably one of the first to pass away from the class of 1966.
He was missed then and is missed now. Bob Shourds

Yes, I believe Darryl was the first classmate to pass. He was killed in a car accident. His father was the vice principal at Benjamin Stoddert I believe and Darryl was his only child. Mr. and Mrs Reeder were devastated. And yes, he was always smiling. Talked a lot of heading to "Shep"/Shepherd college in West Virginia all the way back to Stoddert times. Believe the family had a place in that area where they went on weekends faithfully.
So, yes, Darrell, you are remembered!

Darrell died in a car accident in 1967 at the beginning of his second year at Shepherd College. He had an older brother, Ron, who graduated from Shepherd before Darrell started. Ron was in the Air Force in Vietnam when Darrell died. The family had a home in Berkeley Springs, WV and went up there nearly every weekend during the school year. Darrell spent the summer vacation there. I spoke to Darrell a couple of weeks before he died. He was heading back to Shepherd a little early to "check out the new freshmen women."
We lived directly across the street from each other. We walked to Stoddert together and to catch the bus for Crossland. He was a good friend and I have thought of him often.

I REMEMBER DARRELL, I THINK SINCE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BUT DEFINITELY STODDERT. I USED TO WALK WITH HIM AND ALVIN. SOMETIMES. HE, BOBBY (CHOOCH) SHOURDES, AND I PLAYED BALL TOGETHER. ALVIN TOLD ME ABOUT DARRELLS DEATH. IT WAS QUITE A SHOCK I ALWAYS LIKED DARRELL AND THINK OF HIM ALWAYS WHEN I THINK OF MY YOUTH AND HILLCREST HEIGHTS. AS JOE PESCHI MIGHT HAVE SAID ;
"WE WERE UTES TOGETHER"!
GOD BLESS YOU DARRELL...
SEE YOU LATER
